How To Shop At A Thrift Store

Am I crazy? NO!

Shopping at thrift stores is something most girls my age avoid. But, it is also possibly the best place to shop for  reasons that will be explained in this guide

This is a guide that will hopefully change your opinion about thrift stores.

1. You have acces to vintage items

2. You can sometimes find quality items

3. You can find very trendy peices for a good price

4.It is CHEAP!

1. You never know who previously owned the clothes

2. It is unsanitary and dirty

3. Most local thrift stores (by that I mean Value Village or whatever) tend to sell counterfiet versions of designer bags

Wash everything thouroughly before you wear anything

Try everything on

Know how to spot counterfeit items right away (see my How To Spot A Fake Designer Purse post)

Go to thrift stores that sell used good-quality items

Underwear (Eww!)
Hats, hair combs, etc.

Stuffed animals (I just think there are limits!)

Also, thrift stores carry lots of items featured in my Trend Alerts (especially old-lady inspired, eighties and ninetys inspired and so on!)

So, now you know how to shop at a thrift store! Yay!

Update On TD!

It has been quite some time! (A couple days!) I've just been so buisy with homework and studying and talent show auditions that I kind of slacked. I think I might try to find a post to do today, but I don't really know yet. Keep sending in your requests, guys! Oh, I sound like broken records!

I also want to let you guys know that I have a very special post comming in the very near future. I won't say what it is until it's posted, though.

Oh, and have you noticed that there isn't as many beauty posts as I used to have? Well, I did so many beauty posts when I first started my blog and I feel like I've said everything there was to say, so until I'm inspired, my blog will focus more on fashion. I am more interested in fashion!

What To Wear: Weekend

Here is another What To Wear post on weekend looks, since it is Saturday! These are my runway-inspired tips on what is in and what to wear for the weekend.

Outfit 1: I absolutely love the electric blue color of this DKNY button-down dress! It is something everyone needs in their closet, it is so versatile. I'd definitely add tights around this time of year.

Jill Stuart
Outfit 2: Why I love this trend is because it ties into my old-lady inspired trend, but is still completely modern in courtesy of the blazer. This trend is evidently not-so-wearable, but you can find ways to make it wearable, like ditching the blazer and shorts and pairing a similar blouse with pink pants, or pairing the blazer and top combo with black dressy shorts and tights instead.
Jonathan Saunders

Outfit 3: This Jonathan Saunders look is so cool because of it's 80's inspired comfortable feel! It ties into my The Baby-Sitters Club'' inspired trend report. I would pair a hot pink oversized sweatshirt, t-shirt or jacket with full-length floral leggings to make the look more wearable.

Hope you enjoyed, and happy weekend! LAME!

Trend Alert: ''The Baby-Sitters Club'' Inspired

Does that sound odd or not?

That textbook 80's-90's look is making a comeback! I am a ''The Baby-Sitters Club'' fan, I've read half the series (which is a lot!) And, their looks, all of them, are actually on trend right now! The reason why I named this tutorial such a odd name inistead of ''80's inspired'' or ''90's inspired'' is just that, well that's really the look I want to talk about today!

Sorry for the bad image quality!

Oversized clothes, acid wash, high waisted denim, leggings-they're all comming back! Why I pretty much wear a muted version of this trend every day is because of how easy it is to wear! It is so comfortable and looks good on everyone. Floral prints are big for spring, too. (see my ''Old Lady Inspired'' post) To not take it too far, wear only one retro item at a time. For example, pair acid-wash denim with a lace t-shirt for the perfectly balanced version of this look. You can also wear the look in small doses: Wear a scrunchy or classic sneakers with a basic and modern outfit for a toned-down version of this look. Don't go pairing lime green leggings with hot pink baggy t-shirt, now!

Hope you enjoyed!

Disclaimer: I am evidently not getting paid for this post!

5 Updos to Try Now!

You are required to tie your hair at school, but how do you make it look cute? This guide will give you a week's supply of updos to try immediately! (No heat required!)

Monday: On a lazy Monday, just relax and tie your hair in a low ponytail. To make your ponytail edgier, leave a couple of strands out of your ponytail.

Alexander Wang
Tuesday: Rock my favorite look: a messy side braid! Tie your hair in a braid and mess it up!  Don't stress over perfection!

Wednesday: Throw your hair up in a bun! Not just any bun, though! Make this a very messy bun by, well, messing it up!

Thursday: Upgrade your bun by adding a hair scarf tied in a bow for a trendier twist!

Friday: Celebrate the best day of the week by adding a bow to your look! To see how to achieve this adorable style, see my latest hair bow tutorial!

Hope you enjoyed!

Get The Look: Demi Lovato

I'm back with another look for less! This one is on Demi Lovato's look: a look I love because it's an easy day to night look, which is something I've been talking a lot about recently.

Shirt: Demi Lovato wears a grey baggy off the shoulder sweatshirt. This is something that can be found at any store that has a good selection of basic clothes.

Skirt: The ''Skyscraper'' songstress wears a striped body-con skirt with this look. Evidently, this skirt doesn't have to be striped, it can be any color of the rainbow, although I would recommend something dark. This can commonly be found at H&M for $7.00!

Shoes: Demi's extreme heels are way too extreme for my eleven year old self, (I feel like I have to repeat that in every shoe column of my Look For Less!!!) so my safer bet would be flats!

Again, feel free to add tights to this look!

Hope you enjoyed! Bye!

Simple Bow Hair Tutorial

I`ve been gone since Friday, which feels like quite some time! I have just been so uninspired, so please send in your requests! Anyways, here is my simple way to rock an oversized bow in your hair. Enjoy!

You will be needing:

-Thin elastic

-Oversized hair bow

Step 1:

Brush your hair, evidently.

Step 2:

Tie your hair in a low and loose ponytail.

Step 3:

Pin your bow to your ponytail. Now, remove your elastic. Your hair is done!

I know that was kind of vague, but it is kind of hard to explain.

What To Wear: Daytime

I always love launching new post series' and I love having series because it makes it so easy to figure out what kind of posts to do. Okay, I'm getting fed up of typing the word ''series'', let's get with the post!

Today's post will give runway inspired casual outfits and tips on how to look totally trendy but casual at the same time! Yay!

Isabel Marant
Outfit 1: The PERFECT outfit for any casual school day! A jersey-inspired top is great for a lazy day because of it's bagginess, which makes it soo comfortable to wear. Pairing your jersey with printed leggings in the same color family makes a masculine top feminine.

Marc Jacobs

Outfit 2: You might think I'm crazy, but I definitely think tutus are perfectly wearable, even during the day! Paired with a baggy sweatshirt-inspired t-shirt, I feel like it's not really an outfit anyone can pull off, but it's definitely an adorable outfit! (My last outfit was very wearable, though!)

Juicy Couture
Outfit 3: Oh my lord, I love this outfit! The reason why I love it so much is just because it's pretty much a casual outfit, but the floral blazer just adds something to the look, it gives it more shape which makes it look more polished.

OH, and have you noticed that Tween Dreams has gone runway? I really love looking at runway outfits, and trying to re-create them in my own way, it's my new found obsession!

Hope you enjoyed!

Trend Alert: Sequins!

I KNOW this is considered as a 'holiday trend' and it 'can't be touched now that the holidays are over', but those statements are all myths! You saw my last Get The Runway Look, and sequins are totally wearable, even during the day! Photographed on the right is a photo of my favorite look from DKNY's Spring 2012 collection.

Of course you can wear sequins at school! Just pair one sequined piece with a loose-fitting basic piece. Since you're wearing a very loud piece, choose either neutral tops or tops in the same color as your sequined piece. There's your ideal day look!

Now, sequins are meant to be worn at night, as well! You can dress your sequined piece up more, evidently, but still, never overdo it. The real benefit about sequins is that they transfer very well from day to night, like this DKNY look. For example, let's say you're wearing sequined leggings and a silk  baggy top. Pair the look with high tops for school. For an ideal night look, change into flats and there you go! From baggy shirts to button downs to denim jackets to lace tees, sequins can be worn with anything!

Get The Runway Look: Isabel Marant

TGIF! Ha, I was going to do a whole article on tips to achieve a similar outfit to this, but than I decided to do a look for less. I saw this picture in a Seventeen magazine about two years ago, so I know it is an outdated collection, but I fell in love with it, and the honeymoon is not over! So, there you go!

I absolutely love this outfit because it is put together, but still cool! It is basically timeless!

Top: The model wears a white button down blouse, which is a basic!

Jacket: Another basic sported bu the model is a denim jacket, which has a looser cut. While re-creating this look, you can pair it with a denim vest or denim shirt, just stay in the denim family!

Pants: I doubt you would find the exact Isabel Marant pants, but you can pair this look with any kind of sequined leggings or liquid leggings, as long as it has some kind of sheen to it and is a dark color.

Shoes: Now this is what I love about this outfit: About half of my Get The Look posts always have some kind of high heels. Not this time! This luxe look is paired with black flats, but since this look is not that colorful, you can pick a flat in a contrasting shade. This look is such a perfect day look!!!

Hope you liked this post!

Trend Alert: Dress Pants & Shorts

A huge trend for 2012 is dressy black or sequined shorts with tights. But, I am going to tell you straight up because it's my job that they aren't that flattering on everyone, and they can be a bit outrageous for your taste.

An alternative is dress pants. They can be found at H&M and Zara, and look so freaking pretty! I really like rolling them up a bit, and pairing them with flats, a leopard belt and a lacy top. Although this is kind of considered menswear, you can still glam it up and make it more or less modern. For a really formal look, I'm sure sequined ones exist somewhere. The trick with any kind of sequins is to balance the sparkle out with a plain top.

I've recently been to both a high end boutique and H&M, and in both of those stores, I saw dressy shorts. Although I said that they're tricky to pull off, I know some ways of still wearing them.

If you are comfortable with it, here are my tips for pulling these off for every body type.

Curvy: Opt for a longer pair of shorts, and make sure they're not stuck to your legs: Buy a size bigger if necessary. Same goes with all shorts.

Petite: Since you`re going for a classy look, make sure the shorts aren't too short. Same goes for tall frames.

I hate doing posts on trends that don't apply to everyone! But, it's very important that you always flatter your body, because you can just end up looking worse.

Hope you enjoyed!

Semi-Formal Hair Tutorial

Another Tween Dreams hair tutorial! I love this look, it's the perfect hairstyle to have for a semi formal event! Please note that this style works best on long hair (sorry) and that I never do my hair! Here it goes!

You'll need:

Hair Brush

Curling iron

(optional) Flat iron

Clips for sectioning hair

Step 1:

Make sure your hair is pretty straight. If you have natural curls or waves, you should consider flat ironing (is that grammatically correct?) your hair before proceeding to the next step.

Step 2:

Brush your hair thoroughly.

Step 3:

After your curling iron is heated, section your hair. Clip all your hair up, with the exception of the back. After that step is complete, you want to begin curling. Curl only the bottom, so about 1\3 of the strand if you have long hair like me. The shorter your hair is, the smaller the sections should be. After that section is done, work your way up. If you have difficulty with curling your hair, consider watching YouTube tutorials. Oh, and if you do, you're not alone!

Step 4:

After all your ends are curled, spray your hair with hairspray and you're done!

Having just your ends curled is so pretty! Hope you enjoyed and that you can try this look sometime!

Get The Look: Katy Perry

Yay! This is another ''Get The Look post, and this one isn't on my usual casual outfit, I chose the look Katy Perry wore to the EMA's because I find it's a perfect red carpet outfit! Plus, you guys know that I'm a huge fan of Katy!!

Dress: Katy Perry wears a patterned cotton dress in this look. This dress looks like something probably from Urban Outfitters or American Apparel, so you can check there for something similar. That's all I have to say for the dress, what else can I say?

Jacket: Although the ''The One That Got Away'' singer's bomber is pink to complete her pink look, a black bomber can work well too! Any leather jacket goes well with the look, but bombers are cooler, at least in my opinion!

Shoes: I definitely wouldn't wear Katy's platforms since I'm 11! I'd wear flats with this look.

To wear this look around this time of the year, I'd also add black tights underneath.

See, this is the perfect dressy look!

Hope you enjoyed!

Trend Alert: Old Lady Inspired

The first Trend Alert of 2012! I absolutely LOVE this tween trend, I love the irony of it! So here is my Trend Alert!

This winter-spring, old lady inspired pieces are huge! Lace, pastels, floral, the works. I find on girls my age, it looks so cool because it's unexpected. Many places carry pieces of this ironic trend, especially H&M, Zara, Urban Outfitters and American Apparel. The trick to this trend is to choose modern cuts, but with vintage prints, fabrics and pastel colors. You should always pair a vintage top with a modern bottom for this trend to work. My ideal look is a pastel colored sweater, with black dress shorts and tights and leather boots. If dress shorts are too much for you,(they can be!) pair the sweater with jeans and pears. Lace tights can look amazing when paired with a modern dress! So just choose modern cuts and pair vintage pieces with modern bottoms, and you have the perfect vintage look!

Hope you enjoyed!
